L.A. Community & Connections
What was that I said about reaching out to someone last week? Well, I’ve taken the advice myself and this week I got to connect with a lot of people. I’m visiting in L.A. after being away 3 – 4 years. It has warmed my heart (and yes, the heat and humidity have warmed my body, too).
I started out as a guest in a book club meeting at the A.K. Smiley Library in Redlands. They had read my book Keep Walking, Your Heart Will Catch Up and they shared such thought-provoking questions and insights. Books are nice to read, but when you get to discuss them aloud with others, they are even better. They come alive. Plus as a bonus, I was especially touched when someone shared that this is the first book she has ever read all the way through. Next, I got to lead a workshop at the Upland Public Library, and throughout the week share meals with some very special friends and dear family members.
Then Saturday was the main event—an all-star lineup of musicians played in tribute to Ron Reyes, an amazing musician and friend who passed away a few months ago. The heart, spirit, and love of all who loved him so dearly was strongly felt in the room and will stay with me forever. The event was also a fundraiser to provide musical instruments for children who cannot afford them – a special request from Ron. If you’d like to donate, you can do so here: https://gofund.me/ac4a06261
Yes, it was good to reach out and be in community with others, and this day and all those I shared it with is a treasure. I’m grateful.
