A Change of Perception, Please

This week I was thinking about going to one of our favorite restaurants – it’s soooo far away. To get there we have to drive down the hill, over the bridge and across the river. We have to leave Washington and go into Idaho. I often think, “Well, let’s just go somewhere nearby.”  But it’s all a matter of perception. Traveling a hill and crossing a river seem to make it so far away, but the truth is—the restaurant is only 5.1 miles from my home. Not far at all! My brain tells me that, but my senses insist that it feels so far away.

It’s a matter of perception. In this case, false perception. For some reason my body registers it as far when it isn’t. Just kinda makes me wonder what other false perceptions I’m following. What else do I think or do because I’ve accepted some internal belief about something that is not true?  I laugh about it now, but I think I’ll try to keep an eye out for other thoughts and feelings I’ve bought into.  What am I missing?

How about you? Any funny or “off” perceptions you’ve bought into?
